Does anyone know who owns the old bowling alley? Haley would like to go bowling, but we can’t go to Starlite lanes. We tried and it just doesn’t work out. Her Dr. told us it was very crucial to keep Haley away from smoky rooms. That once you have lung cancer it has been proven to be very important to the battle. Haley loves to bowl. She use to bowl after school in a league. When I asked the gentleman at Starlite Lanes if he could give us the far lane and explained our situation with him He did give us the lane but walked through the middle of us smoking 6 times. And made eye contact with me every time. I was very polite with him but I guess he was offended. To him it was a joke. To me it was life. I remained calm but I know I can’t put Haley in that situation again.
The last three months have been rough. Haley has been bed ridden. She tried to go to school today for first time since before Thanksgiving but pasted out. Luckily the school counselor was there to catch her and let her down gently to the floor. I took her to the Dr Today to get fluids. She is so weak from being in bed for so long. Her scans look good we just got behind on nutrition and hydration and exercise. She got a sinus infection in the middle of treatment so that didn’t help. Dr. would like to keep her active. Going to school and other activities. Haley loves to swim but I think that you have to be a member now at the civic center. We heard that a church bought the old bowling alley. Does anyone know if it would possible for her to bowl? Thanks in advance, Scott Last edited by dyal62; 01-26-2010 at 04:53 PM. |

The church that owns the old bowling alley is out on Elm Street just south of the shopping center where Old Hickory Steakhouse is located. Maybe Harvest Time Pentecostal? The name escapes me and I am at the house on the other side of town. Don't know if Springfield is an option but Lighthouse Lanes on Glenstone is a totally smoke free facility. My brother bowled there a couple of nights in leagues when he lived there before moving here. He's commented more than once on the smokey conditions at Starlite, and he has some health issues (not nearly as serious as Haley's) which are aggravated by the smoke. Not sure if he's going to continue with league after this season is done, but he also loves to bowl and is pretty decent.
You are a much better person than me. If that had happened with my child, that cigarette would have probably not been in his mouth...maybe another orifice but definitely not his mouth. You should go talk to the YMCA folks and explain your situation. I think there may be some circumstances where they offer free or reduced cost memberships. It never hurts to ask. Continued prayers go out for Haley and your family. |

Tabernacle Baptist on Springfield Road owns it.
It's open on Sunday afternoons only for the Fort Wood Soldiers. It's possible that it could be rented, but only to a Christian group or other church, Mom says.

Yeah, I guess they sell food stuff there too. According to Mom, Tabernace is thinking of forming bowling teams from their congregation. She didn't know any particulars though.

The others are correct, I had them confused. Sorry for the wrong info...just had the wrong image in my mind when I was thinking. Should not think so often, might strain the brain...

Mom said you could call Pastor Donnie Ball (532-9203) and see if something could be arranged, but she didn't know anything further.

The bowling alley was correctly identified as being owned by Tabernacle Baptist. There are plans in the making to open this up to teens sometime during the week. But nothing is set for sure as of now. It is true that the Church is forming teams to play starting in a couple weeks, but thats more of a Tabernacle members/friends/family. As my daughter is not yet old enough to be in the teen dept. yet I can't give you a for sure answer to your questions. But as someone else mentioned you call call Pastor Ball and he can help you out.
