Default $100k city administrator

"The package offered to Luxem and approved by council gives Luxem a starting annual salary of $80,000. He will have a review in three months, and if that is favorable, he could receive a $5,000 raise. Another $5,000 raise could be given after a six-month review.

Luxem will also be reimbursed moving expenses, which includes the transportation of household goods, temporary lodging and vehicle mileage, and per diem, not to exceed $8,705. Because he will not be enrolling in the city’s health insurance plan, he will be reimbursed $2,800 a year for his insurance premiums. Luxem will also receive four weeks vacation annually.

Luxem replaces former City Administrator Joe Knapp, who resigned in February 2009 to take a position with the Lebanon R-3 School District. At the time of his departure from the city, Knapp's annual salary was $80,828."

Unemployment is ticking along at 10+% and we have to pay a premium to get a new city administrator?

My thanks to the 2 councilman that had enough sense to see this for what it was. We need new councilmen!

That doesn't seem so totally outrageous. What do you think would be a "reasonable" price for a competent city administrator? And I'm not exactly sure what the unemployment rate has to do with what you'd pay somebody in that position.

Maybe B.Anthony can shed some light on this question, but if the Anthony/Waggoner choice had received the position, would the pay be any different?

Oh, nevermind, if that's the case then there is no reason to b***h about the "other" councilmen.

Richard is kind to assume the mayor has chosen a competant Administrator for the city

The other question is, is $100k too much if he doesn't pan out or is less than what we bargain for....hmm?

I agree w/nacho though, this is not a time to gripe. Its the mayors choice, we just gotta go with it and hope for the best, but IMHO, $100k or nearly $100k is asking for alot.

I hope he is worthy, the merits will have to be noticable

Well, it's always a bit of a crap shoot, isn't it?

Still, consider that they were paying $80K to the homegrown prior administrator, who was an integral part of the scheme by which the electric fund began to be milked to fund a bunch of other projects, some of which (e.g., those surrounding the CCC) turned out less than optimal. If the city can get a competent dispassionate professional who would know enough and/or have sufficient backbone to avoid such nonsense or at least nip it in the bud, then an extra $20K a year would be a bargain indeed.

And once more, let me bring up the notion that as Lebanon grows and its business becomes more complicated and sophisticated, it might not be a bad idea to consider a change in the city's organizational structure to make the city administrator the real executive in charge of running the city, and get the mayor's fingers out of the operational pie. If the mayor acts as head of the city council, ex-officio member of various committees, plus the usual ceremonial/PR honcho of the city, that ought to be enough to keep a guy busy, especially at the rate he's being paid.

Best thing you've ever written in my opinion! You are EXACTLY right. If the mayor runs the show, what does the administrator do, answer the phones?

$5000.00 raise every 3 months for the first 6 months. Four (4) weeks of vacation right off the bat.
Because he decides he doesn't want the city health insurance, he will be reimbursed $2800.00 a year...why?....if he chose not to receive it, then the city doesn't have to pay for it right?....yet we are paying him $2800.00 a year because we didn't have to buy a plan for him

How sweet is that deal? And employment rate in our county is setting at 11%

We can rebuild him. We have the technology funding. We can make him better than he was before... Better pay. Stronger incentives. Faster raises.

Now I know why our neighborhood streets weren't touched after the last snow. I personally think it's ridiculous.

Wow, what a retirement job, I'm going back to school! If I train now, maybe when he"s done, I will apply. Whew hooo, City wages in the Ozarks Country.

I'll first apply to run say, Buckhorn or Conway then on to Lebanon.
