from an earlier comment, again i ask, if they can open this to the public one night a month for the school kids, still they have to have insurance for the function and all, why can't they do it every night of the week for the general public for those who wish not to be around booze and smoke....

Wow, you do something nice for the youth of the community and all the sudden people are wondering why you won't do more and more and more.

I'm guessing the insurance would be more, they would have to get volunteers every night of the week, and it would take on a life of its own that would interfere with the essential reason for being of a church. Already they sponsor the huge undertaking of hosting 250 soldiers every Sunday night.

And even to run it as a business would be a distraction from their primary goal of ministry.

how is it, that it can distract from ministry, i thought that was a every day thing christians are supposed to do ( or atleast the churche's i have attended, taught that ), be a witness to the heathens....

and sorry i don't buy into them "hosting" the soilders every week. stop rolling those buses to the post, and see how many come here on thier own....

you hear a lot of people both christians and non smokers complaing about no place to go bowling here in town, without the smoke or booze in the place, here they have the place to meet the needs / wants / desires, of those people, and yet you want to rake me over the coals, since i keep harping about the oppertunity being there, again to "witness" to the heathens...

when this church stops knocking on my doors and leaving their tracks in my yard ( after the winds blow them from who knows which house as well ), then i might see things differently coming from this church....

As a general rule or policy, soilders are not allowed off base during basic training. So, I suppose you are correct in that statement. Without the buses they probably won't come.

And I think the word you are looking for is tracts not tracks. Because with all the snow it has been hard not to leave tracks behind . I guess thats part of the "witness to the heathens".

I do appreciate your willingness to volunteer to help run the bowling alley. Extra help is always needed.

have a nice day,
John Boy

Religion is not a subject I get into often..Reading that in bold makes me need to respond...

When I was an 18 year old newly trained (basic training, Fort Ord, Ca 1957) youngster who had never traveled more than 200 miles from my California home, I was sent to Fort Gordon, GA for MP training..
As macho as I tried to be, one of my greatest memories of that time was of a local Baptist Church sending a line of church members private autos to collect anyone who would like a day of friendly faces and a home cooked meal..
The military training I received made me grow up more quickly but the kindness of those people in that church made me a much stronger man, in ways that helped me thru out my life..
Was I "preached" to?...You betcha and the humble kindness of those who cared was priceless..

how about them spending as much time and energy for the more local area. if they have the time to spend roughly 10 -12 hrs every sunday, how about doing that for the general population.
sorry all i see from them is "blowing their own horn" as look at what we are doing more of a boastful way then in the way of ministering.

Perhaps, because the soldiers appreciate it.

In a county of 100 or so churches, I would think 1 should be allowed to conduct a Fort Ministry if they so choose, without public complaint of their program. After all, it's not like the soldiers are being provoked or forced to become Christians.

If Tabernacle chooses to open their privately owned bowling alley to FLW soldiers, I don't think the local public is being slighted by any means. It's not a public business. If they choose to open it to the the public, that's great, if not that should be acceptable to everyone. It's the church's choice to make.

Granted, there would be no soldiers without church buses to transport them, primarily due to the fact that recruits don't drive to basic training.

Tabernacle has been conducting this ministry with honor since 1970 or so and I hope it continues.
